A Letter in Honor of My Spirit Daughter
By Pauline Peralta
I asked myself repeatedly—several times in a day:
Why do I care this deeply,
when in return it seems
I have nothing to gain?
Because—if not you, who will?
And because I see what others refuse to face.
A silent yet anchoring answer.
This silent truth continued on:
Because I cannot look at a child
who has been passed between systems and silences,
and tell her that she is unworthy of someone staying.
I cried—
not because I wanted to be seen,
but because each life is sacred.
Because in that moment,
I was embodying the grief and rage
of every woman who has ever loved a child
the world failed to protect.
And still—
I stayed.
I didn’t walk away.
I said to her what few ever have:
“I’ll be here until you tell me no.”
I have been entrusted now
to be your spirit mother.
And that I will be to you—until you say otherwise.
No title, no paper, no approval needed.
This is what it means
to be chosen by the ache.
To see a wound that scares most away,
and choose not to look away.
To cry from the center of your being
and still rise to fight.
My heart will fight for you.
My will—will advocate for you.
And I know you, too, will succeed—
because you have me, until you say no.
I’ve crossed many thresholds.
I’ve said yes to sacred roles
that were never part of my plan,
but always part of my becoming.
I have six children by blood.
What is one more by spirit?
One more soul to remind that love didn’t forget them.
One more light to protect from being dimmed.
One more sacred “yes” that I will never regret.
This is not charity.
This is not rescue.
This is devotion.
And devotion doesn’t walk away
when it feels hard,
or when others disagree.
Devotion stays.
Even when the world tries to convince you
she wasn’t worth it.
But I know better.
Because I see her.
And because love—true love—doesn’t count the cost.
It answers the call.
Even when that call is an ache.
And so to you, my spirit daughter,
I say this with the certainty of a thousand lifetimes:
I know you will succeed. Hang in there with me.
Because you have me in your corner—
and me, a Divine Architect backed by Light,
will see this through.
I’ve been asked this question so many times—
How do I do it all?
If I were to tell you my story…
I say yes to it all.
To those who have felt unseen,
or unworthy of someone staying—
I see you whole.
This is why I show up:
A Divine anchor in your becoming,
until the day you say no.
Until then, I remain—
Your unwavering spirit mother.
Your fiercest witness.
Your sacred vow in flesh.
And your anchor in the storm
